Food Survey News

Hello HRN members.......

Hope you are all well and enjoying the warmness.

As most of you would be aware, HRN received funding to conduct a Local Food Survey of food producers for the region.

The aim of the survey is to gather information to gain an understanding of the overall food supply within our region and to determine where and when there may be potential to fill gaps in demand with local produce.

Thanks to the efforts of mostly Liz, Su, Melissa, Maureen and Felix, a total of 27 surveys of local food producers have been completed. However, we still have 109 producers to survey!!!

Can any of you help us complete some of the remaining surveys, particularly if you have any farmers or food growers nearby? You may even know some of these folk and/or are willing to talk to them about the survey. Let us know if you have a bit of time to get the ball rolling again as it is something we would dearly like to finish in the near future. You could join us at HRN headquarters and have fun working together.

Thanks, Ivan and Su

This Survey would be most welcome as information to include on our Local Food Map at http://www.localfoodmap.net/ which helps people find food within a certain vicinity and is available free, on a non-profit basis. We wish to cooperate as much as possible with other community organisations which have similar aims.

Using the Local Food Map site, food growers can sign up and list their eggs, fruit, vegies, etc, which are displayed on the map with the icon of their choice.

Another useful feature of our site is that customers can "subscribe" to a particular food grower, to receive emails when fruit is in season ready for picking, for example.

We have a widget which can be placed on any website. You can pass parameters to the widget code to define how it loads, ie position, maximum producers etc.

This may be something you wish to consider including on your website.

There are now quite a few outlets in Victoria, so if you wish to see a demonstration of this working, try searching your own town as your locality. For example:
Find All Produce
nearest to Daylesford VIC.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

Kind regards,

Rosemary & Gordon Rouse

Hi HRN, we just wanted to let you know that our farm gate stall is open three days a week Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 11 – 5. We have a wide range of certified organic fresh produce for sale as well as the opportunity to buy your vegies and eggs stright from the grower, 5 minutes from the center of town. Please send a link in your newsletter, and feel free to use any images from our web site. Thanks a lot, Kate and Brendon, Daylesford Organics.
