Winter pruning workshop

The Daylesford Community Food Gardeners are running a free fruit tree pruning workshop this coming Saturday. BYO secateurs and/or loppers. 

What a fabulous opportunity for all of us to brush up on our pruning skills (under the skilled guidance of biodynamic orchardist Ian Clarke), while socialising and keeping warm.

Kinglake & Kitchen

Day 1 of the Kinglake Regenerating People Place Prosperity Preparedness conference was truly a knockout. With so many speakers the day promised to be almost too full, but in groups of three the speakers managed to bounce off each other, stick to time constraints and be up for questions at the end of each session.

The content, as you may have seen in the program, is broad ranging due to the inspired organisation of Daryl Taylor. This event was made possible with monies from the 2009 Black Saturday fires funding for badly affected areas.

See if you can make it to Day 2 of this event on Sunday May 5th—National Permaculture Day—to celebrate the best of lessons learned in the wake of disasters close to home.

Gardening Volunteers Wanted

The Kitchen Garden program at Daylesford Primary School is looking for volunteers. If anyone is available to assist, even for one session, please contact Jennifer Thompson at the school on 5348 2480. Other Shire schools would be also interested in Volunteers for their gardening programs with students; it's a great way of helping the younger generation go green.

Dave Jacke is a permaculture pioneer who has taken the Forest Garden concept beyond it tropical origins showing it can be adapted to temperate climates.

This talk is a unique opportunity for local permaculture practitioners and anyone interested in ecological solutions to hear Dave Jacke speak while he is in Central Victoria.

This coming Thursday, March 7 at 5pm, please come along to the Town Hall for the annual International Women's Day Honour Roll celebration that pays tribute to women in the Shire whose contribution, courage and example have led to significant social change for women. Local food activist Su Dennett has been nominated so come on down to show your support for Su. All community members are welcome to attend this free event.

This coming Saturday is the monthly working bee at the Albert Street community garden (next to the library), as well as the Harvest Swapmeet. 10am – 12pm. Bring along your excess bounty to swap as well as your gardening tools for the bee and some seeds/seedlings to plant. Some suggestions are garlic, coriander, broad beans, pak choy, tatsoi, turnip, lettuce, carrot and peas.
